NACE-NAICS industrial classifications convergence projectOn June 14, 2000, under a cooperative agreement on statistical issues signed by the statistical agencies of Canada, European Union and United States, a project to study the potential for greater convergence between NACE and NAICS industrial classifications was initiated. The agreement outlines a multiphase approach, beginning with a study of concepts and existing differences in the respective classifications, generation of possible scenarios for convergence, consultation with user communities, and finally recommendation of a template that could be used for convergence. The United Nations Statistics Division and the Technical Subgroup of the Expert Group on International Economic and Social Classifications consider this project on convergence as a vital input to the ongoing work on the ISIC 2007 revision. Analysis and consideration of the emerging findings of the convergence project have now been incorporated in the proposed timetable and planning process for the ISIC 2007 revision. |
