IAEG-SDGs
Improving data flows and global data reporting for the Sustainable Development Goals
In its decision 48/101 (l), the United Nation Statistical Commission requested the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) to develop guidelines on how custodian agencies and countries can work together to contribute to the data flows necessary to have harmonized statistics. The IAEG-SDGs prepared a first draft of the guidelines and some best practices on data flows and global data reporting for SDGs, which were presented at the 49th session of the United Nation Statistical Commission.
In its decision 49/101 (g), the Statistical Commission requested the IAEG-SDGs to work jointly with custodian agencies and establish a fruitful dialogue between all parties, to further refine the guidelines by taking into account concerns raised at the forty-ninth session of the Commission and to prepare criteria for implementation of the guidelines that are based on best practices and on ways to limit the burden that the envisaged procedures may represent in terms of time and resources for both national and international statistical systems and that resolve outstanding issues. The IAEG-SDGs and the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA) worked together to develop a document on criteria for the implementation of the guidelines on data flows and global data reporting for the Sustainable Development Goals. The IAEG-SDGs also developed a background document on best practices on data flows and global data reporting for the 50th session of the United Nation Statistical Commission.
