February 2022 UNSC 53 Side Event & Open Virtual Meeting
As part of the 53rd session of the UN Statistical Commission, a side event on "The use of non-traditional data and quality assurance in SDG monitoring" was hosted by the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) on Tuesday, 8 February at 8am NYC EST.
This side event discussed aspects related to representativeness, definition and validation of data from non-traditional data sources for SDG indicators, confidentiality issues, comparability with other data, capacity building, and the possibility to bridge data gaps. The event also sought to broaden the perspective of the use of quality assurance frameworks to ensure the quality of statistics produced by non-traditional data sources and methods.
The side event was open to all countries, international and regional agencies and entities, and other stakeholders.
