The United Nations Expert Group on Tourism Statistics (EGTS) is jointly organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It is composed of representatives of national statistical offices, national tourism administrations and interested international organizations.
The Expert Group held a meeting between 25 - 28 June 2007 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The main purpose of the meeting was to review, amend and endorse the provisional draft of International Recommendations on Tourism Statistics which was submitted to the thirty-ninth session of the United Nations Statistical Commission for adoption (26-29 February 2008).
The provisional draft manual was prepared using the initial draft developed by UNWTO. It incorporates conclusions of the International Workshop on Tourism Statistics jointly organized by UNSD and UNWTO held in Madrid on 17-20 July 2006, comments received from countries via an electronic forum conducted by the UNWTO in the second half of 2006, suggestions from members of the UNWTO Committee on Statistics and Macroeconomic Analysis of Tourism and recommendations of the Interagency Coordination Group on Tourism Statistics.
