Classifications Training Workshops

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) has carried out a number of workshops intended to build capacity in statistical offices of Member States in the area of statistical classifications.

Since the development and implementation of major economic classifications, like the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) and the Central Product Classification (CPC) have been key elements of UNSD's classifications work over the last 15 years, most workshops were focused on the development and implementation of these classifications.

The United Nations Statistics Division offers training in Statistical Classifications through the conduct of international workshops, intended to build capacity in statistical offices of Member States in the development and implementation of statistical classifications. Workshops are planned with an awareness of the importance of statistical classifications for the implementation of the System of National Accounts and the current round of Population Censuses and household survey programmes.

United Nations Classifications Workshops emphasize basic principles of classification methods while specifically covering the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) and the Central Product Classification (CPC). The workshops often also cover other reference classifications of the international family, such as those of education, occupation, employment, time-use or health.

Workshops have been conducted in all regions, in coordination with Regional Commissions and regional working groups, and have addressed the implementation and national adaptation of the classifications.
