Andres Vikat

Biography

Andres Vikat is with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as Chief of the Social and Demographic Statistics Section. Work under his responsibility includes the development of guidelines on statistical methodology, building national statistical capacities, and measuring progress on the Sustainable Development Goals. As head of the UNECE Population Unit until 2010, he was leading the pan-European Generations and Gender Programme of data collection and research, and the implementation of the United Nations policy framework on ageing. Andres holds a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki.
