The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Division and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, is organising a regional workshop on strengthening the collection and use of international migration data for the achievement of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development for selected countries in Asia. The meeting is organized under the 11th tranche of the development account capacity building project.
The workshop aims to increase the capacity of participating countries to produce and analyze comprehensive national migration data that meets international standards, and to enhance understanding of the uses and limitations of migration data for policy purposes and for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

United Nations Regional Meeting on Disability Measurement and Statistics in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2020 World Population and Housing Census Programme

The United Nations Statistics Division, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific, is organizing a Regional Meeting on Disability Measurement and Statistics in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 2020 World Population and Housing Census Programme. The objectives are to: (i) review and discuss national experiences in approaches taken to measure the population with disabilities during national censuses of the 2010 round; (ii) discuss strategies for compilation of data on disability for monitoring of Sustainable Development Goals particularly in the context of the regional Incheon Strategy, a framework regarding persons with disabilities in the Asia and Pacific region; and (iii) share national experiences among participating countries and foster intra-regional cooperation aimed at enhancing national capacity in disability measurement and improving the quality of data for monitoring of the SDGs.
Asian Development Bank Regional Workshop for Post Field Work Discussion of the EDGE Pilot Surveys

In collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Statistics Division, under the EDGE project, facilitated a Regional Workshop for Post Field Work Discussions of the EDGE pilot surveys. The workshop was attended by participants from the three EDGE pilot countries funded by the ADB - Georgia, Mongolia and the Philippines, as well as resource persons on sampling and measuring the gender asset gap.

9th meeting of the Inter-agency and expert group on gender statistics (IAEG-GS)

UNSD organized the 9th meeting of the IAEG-GS, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 29-30 October 2015. A total of 36 participants from international agencies, regional commissions and national statistical offices attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the preliminary SDG indicators under Goal 5 – Achieving gender equality and empower all women and girls – proposed by the 2nd meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGS), held from 26 to 28 October. The review was carried out from a technical perspective, highlighting the need for rephrasing or for correcting inconsistencies. The proposed indicators were further classified into 3 tiers according to the agree tiers system. The meeting also took note of work programmes and initiatives undertaken by IAEG-GS members to strengthen gender statistics at the international, regional and national levels.

Technical meeting on measuring asset ownership from a gender perspective

Under the Evidence and Data for Gender Equality (EDGE) project, the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and UN Women are organizing in Bangkok, from 30 July to 2 August 2013, a technical meeting on measuring asset ownership from a gender perspective. The meeting will bring together around 30 experts, including survey statisticians and gender specialists from selected countries, partner agencies and regional commissions, to discuss how to measure asset ownership at the individual level. More precisely, participants will: (a) review and discuss the draft Technical Report on Collecting Sex-Disaggregated Asset Data presenting the proposed methodology to collect individual-level asset data through a dedicated module attached to a multi-purpose national household survey; (b) share national practices on measuring asset ownership; and (c) discuss the project implementation strategy in selected pilot countries.
United Nations regional seminar on census data dissemination and spatial analysis

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), is organizing the Regional Seminar on Census Data Dissemination and Spatial Analysis in the context of the 2010 World Programme for Population and Housing Censuses.
The purpose of the Seminar is to provide a forum for sharing national practices and experiences in the dissemination and use of census data. The Seminar will review emerging trends, innovative approaches and technological tools employed in the dissemination of census data. The Seminar is expected to provide a basis for assessing existing national dissemination strategies as well as technologies used by national statistical offices. It will also aid in taking stock of national capacities and challenges for meeting the increasing requirements of census data users. Furthermore, the Seminar is expected to help in identifying good practices and lessons learned in the dissemination and analysis of census data. The ideas generated by the discussion and the recommendations made by participants will contribute towards the drafting of an international guideline for effective dissemination and utilization of census data.
Workshop on the 2010 World programme on population and housing censuses: census evaluation and post enumeration surveys, for countries in the ESCAP regions

UNSD, in collaboration with the UNESCAP, is organizing a Regional Workshop for countries in the region on census evaluation in the context of the 2010 World Programme for Population and Housing Censuses.
The purpose of the Workshop is to present an overview of the various methods of evaluating censuses with a focus on the post enumeration survey (PES) methodology. More specifically, the Workshop will cover elements of the PES with regard to: (1) planning and implementation; (2) frames and sample design; (3) methodologies for evaluating content and coverage errors; (4) matching procedures; (5) imputation of missing values; and (6) tabulation and dual system of estimation. The Workshop will also offer the possibility to the participants to present and discuss the experience of their countries on different aspects of census evaluation and the post enumeration survey.
UNSD-ESCAP Regional workshop on census data processing: contemporary technologies for data capture, methodology and practice of data editing, documentation and archiving

The purpose of the Workshop is to present international standards for processing population and housing censuses and to highlight the significant additional capabilities of contemporary technologies and their use for census data capture and data editing. More specifically, the Workshop will: (1) Present revised international standards for conducting population and housing censuses, focusing on recommended core topics as identified in the United Nations Principles and Recommendations Revision 2; (2) Present and discuss contemporary technologies in census data capture, including the use of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR), Optical Character Recognition/Intelligent Character Recognition (OCR/ICR), Internet data collection, use of handheld devices for data collection, (3) Discuss the process stages for data capture, (4) Present an overview of major commercial suppliers for data capture; (5) Present the principles and practices for census data coding and data editing; and (6) Present international standards for data documentation and archiving and corresponding tools. The workshop will also offer the possibility to the participants to present the experience of their countries in census data processing.
