Institutional cooperation for capacity development
The Nordic model - A broad approach
- Tuesday, 7 MAR 2017
- 8:15 – 9:30 am
- Conference Room A
Meeting organized by Statistics Norway, Statistics Sweden, and Statistic Denmark
The Nordic countries have a long tradition engaging in statistical capacity development. The main approach is to provide assistance through long term and broad based institutional cooperation. Experiences made over the years has showed that cooperation with the National Statistical Office (NSO) in improving the production of specific statistics is not sufficient to build sustainable National Statistical Systems and capacity for statistics. We need a broader focus.
In the later years the Nordic countries have engaged more in institutional cooperation not only with our sister organization in the partner country, but also formally including key data owners and key policy makers on the user side. Another element related to a broader approach in institutional cooperation is the importance we see in supporting not only specific statistical areas, but including support for more general institutional capacity development. Elements such as capacity in leadership and management and IT-infrastructure normally need to be a part of a comprehensive institutional development cooperation.
In this seminar we will present the overall Nordic model for institutional development cooperation, and go more into detail on what we mean when we talk about a broad based approach to capacity development.
